In 1913, Astra AB was initially founded in Södertälje, Sweden, by 400 doctors and apothecaries. In 1993 Demerging of pharmaceuticals businesses and its agrochemicals and specialties businesses was done by the British chemicals company ICI, to form Zeneca Group plc.
